Diapers are made to absorb your baby’s wetness and contain any fecal material. It can be overwhelming to find the right type of diaper for your child, but don’t worry! I will review different types of diapers in this article so you can make an informed decision.
7 Different Types of Diapers
1. Disposable Diapers:
As the name suggests disposable diapers are meant to be disposed of after use. When you buy a package of disposable diapers from the diaper store, they will sell two types – pull-ups and training pants. Attached to each diaper package in addition to the two types mentioned above is information about how often you should change them, how many diapers they can last you before needing to be changed again, and at what age your baby can start using them.
2. Pull-ups:
These are disposable diapers that contain an inner layer of absorbent material, which acts as a pad for the baby’s skin. The absorbent material is usually not as thick as in regular diapers, but it does provide an extra layer of protection. Pull-ups are meant for when your baby has already started walking and finds it difficult to change their own diaper. It is important to note that pull-ups do not contain a waterproof layer; therefore, they have to be changed just like normal disposable diapers.
3. Cloth Diapers:
Another type of diaper that is available is the cloth diaper. These diapers consist of an absorbent inner layer much like the pull-ups mentioned above, but they are made out of either a cotton or polyester material instead. Cloth diapers don’t require you to change them as often as a disposable diaper and save you money in the long run because they can be washed after use.
4. Pocket Diaper:
The pocket diaper is another type of diaper that is just like the cloth diapers mentioned above. They are primarily used for babies who are not yet walking, but still find it difficult to change their own diapers.
To use a pocket diaper, you simply need to stuff the absorbent material into the pocket of the diaper and fasten it around your baby’s waist or waistband. This type of diaper can be worn by babies both inside and outside of their clothing as a regular disposable or cloth diaper would.
5. Disposable Underwear:
This is the final type of diaper that we will be talking about here. Disposable underwear is similar to pull-ups, but instead of being worn over diapers, they are worn directly on a baby’s skin. These can also be used by babies who have started to walk, allowing them to feel more independent and no longer reliant on the help of their parents.
6. Fitted /Contour Diapers:
Fitted diapers are meant to fit snugly against your baby’s body. They are made of a stretchy material that is meant to be pulled up and down over the baby’s bottom. Contour diapers have an absorbent layer that is wrapped around the inside, and because of this, they do not require any pins or fasteners in order to secure them around your baby.
7. All-in-One Diapers:
All-in-one diapers have been around for a while, but the newest types of these are covers that can be used when your baby is sleeping. These can be made from either a cotton or polyester material and each has absorbent pads to keep your baby’s bottom dry while she sleeps.
How to Choose the Right Diaper Type:
When you are deciding on which type of diaper to get for your baby, it is important that you know what your child has been doing and what they can handle.
Does your child have any infections or rash?
If your baby has any problems with the skin around their bottom, then it’s best to use a disposable diaper over the other types of diapers. Disposable diapers are a better choice for children who have sensitive skin.
Do they like to be naked?
For some babies, a disposable diaper can be just as uncomfortable as a pull-up because the diaper does not provide any form of padding. If this is the case, it is a good idea to opt for the cloth diapers over disposable diapers, as they are made out of natural materials and do not induce any skin irritation.
Final Thoughts
To sum it all up, there are many different types of diapers available on the market today and each of these types has its own pros and cons. Depending on the type of diaper you choose for your baby, you can rest assured that you have made an informed decision. Each type of diaper has its own pros to consider before choosing a particular style for your child.
